Quiet Neighbor

Premise

True-crime podcaster Mara Sinclair, reeling from a career-ending mistake that destroyed an innocent man's life, moves to the sleepy coastal town of Heron Cove, Oregon, to find peace. When she becomes convinced that her reclusive neighbor Elias Croft matches the profile of a suspect in a run of cold-case disappearances, she cannot stop herself from investigating. But Heron Cove keeps its own hours: boats that slip in without lights, a store owner who knows every newcomer's name, a deputy whose easy grin never quite reaches his eyes. The deeper Mara digs, the less certain she is of what she is looking at, and the more she fears that the very instincts that once ruined an innocent life are about to put her own in danger.

Setting

Heron Cove, Oregon, present day. A weather-beaten town of roughly two hundred souls at the end of a fog-prone coastal highway where the GPS drops and the radio dies, a single main road running from wind-scoured bluffs down to a half-empty marina, black-stone shoreline, a leaning hand-painted sign with a small wave beneath the name. Cedar cottages silvered by salt air, coffee and dried lavender in the general store, and a southern cove where the water goes dark and quiet long after midnight.

Tone

Atmospheric and suspenseful, a slow burn that builds from quiet unease to desperate action, the moody coast mirroring its heroine's guilt. Dark but ultimately hopeful, with dry humor threaded through the Mara and Elias dynamic.
