Premise

A mortal healer named Bryn Vane discovers her hands can kill when she accidentally destroys a fae prince who has crossed into human lands. Dragged before the Ember Court to face execution, she learns the fae realm is being consumed by a mysterious plague called the Withering, and her lethal gift may be the only force capable of burning it out. The dead prince's older brother, Rendal Ashborn, now heir to the Ember Throne, is ordered by his father the High Lord to keep her alive and use her. Rendal wants vengeance. Bryn wants only to survive. Neither of them expects the bond that ignites as they are forced to work together against a plague that is far more than a disease, and against the truth that the closer they come to its source, the more dangerous the court around them becomes.

Setting

An ageless fae realm and the human borderlands fraying against it. Thornfield is a mud-track village of thatched roofs at the edge of a dark, forbidden tree line; beyond it rises the Ember Court, a vast living palace whose walls run with sentient fire that shifts color and scent with the court's moods. Past its gates spread the eastern territories, once-silver forests now drained grey and crumbling to ash where the Withering has fed for years. Beautiful, ancient, and quietly threatening.

Tone

Dark, atmospheric, and emotionally intense, softened by dry warmth and levity from the supporting cast. The romance burns slow against a backdrop of political danger and moral complexity, tension sustained through restraint, where what characters do not say carries as much weight as what they do. Sensual and charged, but fading at the threshold: steam with the door left cracked.
