The Lighthouse Letters

Premise

After a painful divorce, Claire Bennett moves back to the coastal town where she grew up to renovate her late grandmother's lighthouse cottage. While cleaning the attic, she discovers a box of ten unopened letters addressed to people in the town, written by her grandmother but never mailed. Claire decides to deliver them one by one, and each letter reconnects neighbors, heals old misunderstandings, and rekindles lost friendships. Along the way she meets Jonah Hale, a widowed harbor master raising a teenage daughter who isn't ready for her father to move on. A mysterious one-eared orange tabby named Captain appears from the fog on Claire's first night and becomes an unlikely thread connecting her to the townspeople, to Sophie, and to her grandmother's legacy. As she nears the final letter, one addressed to herself, Claire must decide whether to stay in the town she once ran from or return to the life she built elsewhere.

Setting

Tidewater Cove, a small town on the Oregon coast, in May. Fog rolls off the water at dawn, fishing boats crowd the commercial dock, and switchback roads climb from the harbor to a weathered lighthouse cottage. A world of lemon cake and lavender closets, hand-painted breakwater rocks, a bookshop called Pages & Pours, and a Main Street that still gathers every year for its lantern festival.

Tone

Warm, hopeful, and emotionally grounded, gently humorous but never saccharine, honest about grief and divorce yet fundamentally optimistic. Debbie Macomber's small-town heart with a slow-burn romance that builds through shared moments rather than grand gestures.
